Like her fellow Japanese counterpart, Yohji Yamamoto, her designs take a deconstructive approach. Clothes are slashed, spoiled, knotted and Distressed.
In 1997, in a bold move, Comme Des Garcons showed their "Bump" collection. This shattered all traditions by distorting the human figure as opposed to the clothes. Padding was added in unexpected places such as the abdomen, between the shoulders and breasts. this was believed to be feminist statement about how fashion can undermine the sexuality of the female figure.
