Bias Cut

The bias or cross grain direction of a piece of woven fabric is referred to as the bias.
The Bias cut is a technique used by designers for cutting clothing to utilize a greater stretch in the direction of the fabric, thereby causing it to accentuate the body lines and curves. a full skirt dress cut on the bias will hang more gracefully or a narrow dress will cling to the body. Madeline Vionnet championed the bias cut in the 1920's and 30's.
